Color Shadows Exhibit

Color Shadows exhibit ignites curiosity, fosters creativity, and showcases the enchanting dance of light and shadows. By inviting visitors to manipulate and paint with light, it empowers them to become artists and scientists, leaving them with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the world of color and shadows. This hands-on exhibit offers a unique and immersive experience, allowing participants to control and manipulate light sources to create a symphony of colors and captivating shadow effects.

Visitor Experience

As visitors approach the Color Shadows exhibit, they’ll be greeted by two distinct sets of light sources. Each of these light sets offer a different mode of exploration. The first set consists of a table with adjustable light sources directed onto it. The table features a hand object that can be rotated. This  allows visitors to experiment with various orientations to cast shadows in unique ways.

To further engage with the light sources, visitors can utilize intuitive knobs placed on top of the table. These knobs enable precise control over the density of red, green, and blue light sources. This way, visitors have the power to manipulate the color composition of the light and influence the hues of their shadows. With a twist of the knobs, the exhibit transforms into an interactive canvas where visitors can paint mesmerizing, colorful shadows with their own hands.

The second set of light sources, static and positioned above the exhibit, allows visitors to experience the impact of fixed lighting conditions on their shadows. Visitors witness how different angles and intensities of light produce diverse shadow effects.

Lessons Learned in Color Shadows

  1. Understanding Light and Color Interaction: Color Shadows offers a hands-on lesson in how light interacts with different hues to create captivating color shadows. Visitors learn how mixing red, green, and blue light can produce a spectrum of colors. They gain insights into the phenomenon of additive color mixing.

  2. Manipulating Shadows with Hand Objects: By rotating the hand object on the table, visitors discover how altering the position and orientation of objects can influence the shape and size of shadows. This interactive experience illustrates the principles of shadow projection and geometry.

  3. Exploring Light Density and Shadows: The  knob controls of color shadows exhibit allow visitors to experiment with light density. This way, visitors can observe the impact of light intensity on the clarity and darkness of shadows. This empowers visitors to see firsthand the direct relationship between light and shadow formation.

  4. Encouraging Creativity and Artistic Expression: Color Shadows encourages visitors to engage creatively with light and shadows. The exhibit becomes a canvas for artistic experimentation, fostering imagination and ingenuity.

  5. Comparing Static and Controlled Lighting Conditions: The two sets of light sources enable visitors to compare and contrast static lighting conditions with those under their control. This comparative analysis reinforces the importance of lighting in shaping our perception of the environment.
