Interactive Music & Rhythm Exhibits

Sound you can see, feel and play together. Our music exhibits turn vibration, rhythm and movement into joyful, hands-on discovery — designed and built by Sertek for science centers and museums.

The science of sound

Music is one of the few things that engages every sense at once — you hear it, see it, feel it in your chest, and move to it without thinking. Our music and rhythm exhibits lean into exactly that, inviting visitors to make sound with their whole bodies, play alongside strangers, and watch invisible vibrations become something they can see. No musical training required — just curiosity.

Every exhibit is a doorway into the physics of sound: how vibration creates what we hear, how frequency and pitch relate, how rhythm and pattern build music, and how sound can move through air, water and even our own bodies. It’s STEAM at its best — where science and art are the same experience.

Music exhibit FAQs

It’s lively by design — but controlled. We tune volume levels, choose materials with pleasant tones, and advise on layout and acoustic treatment so the gallery feels energizing rather than overwhelming. Exhibits can also be zoned so louder pieces don’t drown out quieter ones.

Yes — and that’s one of their strengths. Because they translate sound into vibration, light and movement (like the ferrofluid drum and energy floor), visitors experience music through sight and touch, not just hearing. It makes the gallery genuinely welcoming for a wide range of abilities.

Absolutely. Most are designed to be social — the music wall and energy floor are at their best with several people playing together, which makes them great for school groups and family visits.

We build with durable, high-traffic materials and easy-clean surfaces, and design out fragile parts. We also provide maintenance and cleaning guidance so the exhibits stay sounding good and looking good in a busy gallery.

Definitely. Visually striking pieces like the ferrofluid drum or a large music wall make excellent focal points for an atrium, lobby or gallery entrance — drawing visitors in and setting the tone.

None at all. Every exhibit is designed so anyone can make something that sounds good on their first try, then experiment from there. The joy comes from playing, not performing.
