Project Case Study
When Nickelodeon Play Tersane Istanbul was planned, it needed interactives that could match the energy of its characters and stand up to thousands of small, enthusiastic hands. In collabration with Universal Studios, Sertek designed, engineered and delivered thirteen custom exhibits for the venue – mechanical, digital and animatronic – each themed to the world of Nickelodeon and built for daily, high-traffic play.

The Challenge Play With Substance
Nickelodeon Play Istanbul set out to be more than a play area — an edutainment destination where beloved characters meet hands-on discovery. The exhibits had to do three things at once: carry the playful identity of the Nickelodeon brand, deliver real interactive substance rather than passive decoration, and survive the relentless duty cycle of a busy family entertainment center. Every piece also had to be safe and intuitive for the venue’s youngest guests, with no instructions needed.
From Story to Mechanism
- Theme-first design: Each interactive was designed around a story – a piano that plays itself, a pizza counter that fights back – so the mechanism serves the fantasy.
- Mixed technologies: We matched the right technology to each idea: pure mechanics (Drill), animatronics (Pet Parlor, Cave Dwellers), touch screens (Art Store, Dora LED Wall) and sensor-driven surprises (Self Playing Piano).
- Built for abuse: FRP bodies, stainless housings and screen-free mechanisms where possible – everything specified for daily, unsupervised play.
- Delivered as a family: All eight exhibits were designed as one coherent collection, sharing a visual language with the venue.

Outcomes & Operational Performance
The thirteen exhibits opened with the venue and have been in continuous daily operation since. Together they give Nickelodeon Play Istanbul a layer of genuine hands-on discovery that pure play equipment can’t offer, children power a drill with their own legs, wake a parlor of animatronic pets, and leave clutching artwork they made themselves. For Sertek, the project shows what we do best: turning brand stories into robust, buildable, joyful machines.
